Richard Herbert Locklin, Age 25
Private, 26019, 6th Battalion, King's Shropshire Light Infantry.
Richard was actually a Shifnal lad, but at the time of his joining up was living in Dawley.
On the 11th September 1917 the 6th KSLI had moved forward to Talana Farm where they had encamped behind a line of 9.2” Guns, whilst here they were shelled nightly by German artillery with gas.
The strength of the battalion at this time only amounted to 350 men (all ranks) and was commanded by Major H E Welsh. They moved forward on the 19th September from this encampment, so it must be presumed that Richard was killed in one of these German barrages as he was killed in action on the 13th September 1917.
Richards’s body lies in Talana Farm Cemetery in grave III.L.4
